Joanna Giselle

Joanna is a South London based Artist. Born in Brixton and raised in Croydon Surrey.

Joanna was schooled in Sussex East Grinstead, she attended a Rudolf Steiner school where she was exposed to different types of mediums and developed a fascination and love for drawing painting and sculpture which continues to fuel her passion today. she tends to work in graphite clay and oil paints, sometimes using multi media, she is entirely self taught.

Joanna has a light touch, her work is delicate yet raw, she explores racial prejudices within the confines of social classes confronting colourism colonialism and mental health issues within schools and the black community. Her work conveys a sense of realism.

Although her reference’s are heavy the work is light hearted and her subjects are never diminished. But on the contrary they demand the viewers respect.

Exhibiting regularly within the local community the last exhibition Wilson held was in 2022 at the Sharp Art Gallery in Brixton which explores Art and mental health, Joanna has continued her relationship with the founder Anna of the sharp gallery.

Joanna has Also taken part in Chelsea art society open exhibition 2022 And will continue to exhibit her work there for years to come.

Joanna enjoys the use of social media sharing tips suggestions and reaching new audience’s.

Joanna hopes that her work informs the viewer on subjects such as racism colourism and stereotypes surrounding the black experience within the realm’s of classism. Joanna’s work explores the ideology of the black experience surrounding the issues of being dark skinned and what that looks like for many people within the community, and how that play’s out within a working or social environment.
